Who am I?

My name is Greg Wiegand and currently reside in Carmel, Indiana, a northern suburb of Indianapolis. I am Editor-in-Chief at Pearson, Inc. for the Que and Sams Publishing imprints.  Our imprints target technology topics such as Operating Systems, Desktop Productivity, Gadgets, Mobile Technology, Databases, iOS programming, Windows Programming, Upgrading and Repairing hardware and web-based applications. We also cover business/technology topics such as SEO, Social Media Marketing, Personal Branding, Digital Marketing and more.

I hold a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a Master of Business Administration degree. I’ve always had the unique ability to understand complex technology topics, yet be able to bring them into a real-world business situation.

I’m a self-diagnosed gadget junkie and early adopter when it comes to new technology. I try my best to pawn it off as “job related” but everyone knows it’s just my inner geek shining through. I have several devices/gadgets spanning the Windows, Apple and Linux platforms–although I must admit I’m a big fan of Apple products over the past 5 years.

Another big area of interest for me is digital photography and I have a wide variety of cameras from point-and-shoot, video, to Nikon DSLRs and a nice collection of lenses.

I also believe it’s good to have some hobbies, so you’ll see post from me on cooking, biking, scuba diving and boating. If it’s outdoors, I’m probably doing it.

Experience

I started working for Pearson (Macmillan Computer Publishing at the time) in 1992 as a Product Marketing Manager for Sams Publishing. I found myself working for several different publishing groups in the marketing and editorial positions before landing in my current position. I find technology publishing very interesting as it gives me the creative outlet to research and explore cutting edge technology while trying to craft products that truly help people learn and improve their skills.

Prior to working for Pearson, I did some some exciting work for two start-up software companies: Software Artistry, Inc., Indianapolis, IN and Image Sciences, Inc.,Dallas, TX.  My experience at Software Artistry let me explore the fascinating field of artificial intelligence where I worked as a Client Services Representative and Product Marketing Manager helping to implement expert systems into a variety of different businesses. At Image Sciences, I was a Client Services Representative in the field of digital document management where I learned to mark-up documents in DCF and XICS and got to implement systems for some of the largest insurance companies in the world.

Education & Training

B.S., Computer Science/Mathematics minor, Western Kentucky University.

M.B.A., Marketing emphasis, Western Kentucky University.

Diving

During college, I was a diver on the Western Kentucky University swimming team. During graduate school, I was the men’s and women’s diving coach for 2 years and also helped coach the WKU divers.

I also got to have a hand at professional sports. I spent the summer of 1985 diving for the Great American High Diving Team based at the Magic World amusement park in Pigeon Forge, TN. I spent the summer synchronized diving, clown diving, fire diving and high diving. Really, an unforgettable life experience.
